add another post format

hi guys,
i’m not even sure to be in the exactly right sub-forum, but i really would appreciate your help:

task is the following: i am admin of the website of a sports-club for competitive dancing and i would like to present our couples in an appealing way. at the moment they are shown in rather old-fashioned pages with tables. so i thougt it would be great to list them as a special kind of posts, maybe in some kind of visiting card like optics. therefore i would like to add a new post-format, in which i can include pictures, links to the individual persons in each couple (since some of them also are trainers for zumba and so on) and some text. that might be some work to do, but it doesn’t need to be online tomorrow so i got time.

BUT … it doesn’t work! i can’t tell pinboard to show me a new format to select and i don’t know where to search …

i added an additional php-file at the right place and i added it in functions.php … but i cant find where to put it in a way that it will be shown in the dashboard.

ideas, anyone?
