• I tried NextGen Gallery a month ago and had this following problem.
Every time I tried to Add Gallery/Images I get following message.
Invalid image file. Acceptable formats: JPG, GIF, and PNG.
These are same images I have used in WordPress media and other gallery plugins.

I uninstalled and reinstalled today and still receive same error.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

@namaste98 – What file type(s) are you trying to upload into NextGEN Gallery?

@namaste98 – There is no reason off-hand for NextGEN Gallery to not accept a standard image file extension such as JPG, PNG, or GIF. Perhaps there is something else going on with your site? Have you checked for conflicts? Are you certain the folder and file permissions are correct for the galleries?

No conflicts with site. I’ve loaded three other gallery programs to evaluate and they’ve all worked fine. NextGen only issue.

I don’t understand which folder and file permissions you mean for the gallery. Obviously I have something set wrong somewhere.
Please advise as to exact settings you are referring to.

    Thanks for your assistance

@namaste98 – No need to bold your entire response …

… NextGEN Gallery stores its images (by default) under /wp-content/gallery/< gallery name >

Those folders and files will need to inherit their permissions from the /wp-content/ folder and those permissions should be the equivalent of 0755 for folders and 0644 for files (or higher, but generally those permission levels are fine).

If you are not certain how to check, ask your web hosting service to ensure those permissions are being set correctly and will continue to be set correctly going forward.

    Thanks!

    Permissions were set properly.

Thanks for your suggestions. You can close this post. I haven’t been able to figure out where I’ve gone wrong. I need to move forward on this project immediately and have found a plugin that meets the requirements of my project. Perhaps I’ll try NextGen again on my next project. It looks like an extremely useful application.
