Add Specific "Recent Posts" to the body of a page

Hello, as you will se on our website: http://www.fightforthesoulofthecities.com at the bottom of the page there is a section that says “Latest News”. I am attempting to create a feed similar to this on a separate page which displays specific posts, not simply every blog post that i’ve ever done. is there a easy, down to earth, non computer language way of creating a “latest news” feed that only has posts related to one subject, of is there a way to create this with posts that I specifically choose. Please let me know.

P.S. I’ve attempted to use some of the plugins that claim to do this, but they look amateur, I’ve also attempted to use revolutionary slider, but that also did not work out because I don’t want a flashy slideshow at the top of the page.
