Add sidebar to Subtle theme

hi all,

i’ve just started using wordpress and i’m having a small issue with the layout in the gluedideas_subtle theme.

i would like to add a sidebar to the far left side of the screen so it fills the grey space from the edge of the screen to the beginning of my articles. is this possible?

any help would be great. thanks!
