I am trying to figure out how to add categories – currently the only option is un-categorized.

Basically I would like to display two different quotes, on two different pages within the same site at the same time. I think if I can create two different lists, and categorize the quotes, then this should be possible? Or if there’s a better method, please let me know!

I have it working for one quote at a time, it’s the two at a time that’s defeating me.

The categories are your WordPress categories, therefore you need to visit the main WordPress category management area. Once you have added them you can assign your posts to the corresponding category.

The plugin will read your WordPress category list which will allow you to assign the various sections to the correct category. This is how you may control where a section is displayed.

You do raise an interesting point. I should probably add a note about how categories are added; as a reminder.

Ok, so I’ve added categories and they still aren’t showing up. Do I somehow need to add them to the individual quotes?

Nevermind, they did show up. Now, how do I select a particular category for a particular quote?

    Thanks!

You need to edit the quote sections. Select the category and make sure the type is set to display in selected categories. You will then need to save the changes to quote sections. Also don’t forget to assign your post(s) to the necessary categories too.

I am following up to see if you accomplished the desired layout?

Sadly no. I can’t seem to link the categories to static pages, and so I may need to figure out a different solution. The website is http://www.lifestats.org

If you look at the website you’ll see that currently I have one quote appearing on the ‘wisdom +1’ page, and a daily yoga video appearing on the ‘dexterity +1’ page. I accomplished that by using two different plugins. I want to be able to add a third ‘quote of the day’ section on the ‘Constitution +1’ static page.

    Do you have any suggestions?

You are correct in that pages don’t have categories. In order to assign the quotes by categories you would have to convert your pages to posts, which would allow for category assignment.

You raise an interesting point and I like it. The ability to call a quote section by id. Hmmmm…. Yeah that wouldn’t be to hard. It will require some code work but I will look into it.

I will post back here in the next 24 hours if I can do it quickly or not so you aren’t hanging in limbo. Still something like [cw_daily_quotes section_id=(enter daily id)] that would work! Let me add that logic.

I got it working in version 1.3 which I will release by the end of tomorrow (or sooner as I need to perform some clean up).

Okay I released version 1.3. You should be able to accomplish your desired layout. How did it work for you?

Is there an updated shortcode? I am really not much of a programer.

The plugin provides the direct shortcode for you. Go to the edit section screen for a specific area and you will see it on the page.

It appears to be working perfectly! Sorry for being such a dunce about getting it to work on my end. Thank you for your help!

Well that is good to hear. No problem on the assist and now the plugin is even better. I would appreciate it if you could leave a review to help others.

    Thanks and enjoy!

    Hi,
I have added 366 quotes, but each time I “Add” I get an error stating I need 366 quotes. This is driving me insane as I have counted and recounted several times and have all I need. Please advise.

    Thank you!
