Adding New Widget Error
-
Adding a new widget using the latest version of Jetpack does not work. I tried to add Jetpack Social Media Icons on the Primary Widget. When I add data for Facebook etc. the data disappear after saving. Same with adding Text Widget, texts disappear.
-
And if you try to modify a widget, it all disappears. It’s like it doesn’t save at all.
This is a brand new problem as of today’s update, and I have isolated it to Jetpack.
This is ridiculous! Testing department sucks 🙁 WP team should be example for other developers…
I am rolling back and will wait for other updates (bugs, grrrrr)

Having the same problem!
Scared to update all our websites … :/
I’ve contacted Automattic about this problem …@pavelcech, I saw your problem with WPML, hope I don’t have that either, but for now I’m not updating jetpack and will wait for version 5.3!
I’m thinking that they didn’t test jetpack version 5.2 on a WP version 4.8, because in WP 4.8 the text widget changed (they added a wysiwyg “Visual & Text” interface to it).
I hate it when I have to roll back to older versions …
Same. If I edit an existing Visual Editor widget (for text or html) no text is visible. If I create a new Visual Edit widget, I can’t type anything.
This is definitely a bug that occurred with the latest update.
@asullivn, I’ve contacted Automattic about this and they replied.
They are currently working on the bug, within “the next day or so” they expect a new version.“The next day or so”. Eurgh!
For a quick fix maybe this helps: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/5-2-breaks-text-and-tinymce-widgets/#post-9379121
I’m not sure what happened to the “next day or so,” but this is frustrating.
@neelchan – Any word on the bug update? I wish I had the tech savvy to do @dhaffman’s quick fix.Can anyone point me to a link where I can learn how to roll back to the previous version?

Use the Plugin WP Rollback 🙂
@dhoffman – Thank you! I hope they get this fixed!!
Rollback to 5.2 doesn’t work. I guess I need to go farther back.
Okay. Rollback 5.1 does the trick!! Thanks so much @dhoffman. 🙂
yes, you have to go back to 5.1.
Hi All,
Sorry about the delay in writing back to you. A patch was released to fix up this issue in Jetpack version 5.2.1 – Please update to the latest version to get this patch.
This does not fix it at all. When I use for example siteorigins pagebuilder and a layout inside a widget area, the editor is still blocked. I can’t make any changes.
Using 5.1 and everything works fine.
