Adding short code to header.php

Hi I have created a sliced header via an image map and inserted it into my header.php There is a space where I wanted to add the most current instagram picture and was wondering if you could advise me as to where exactly to insert the short code.
My thought was to add something into the image map sequence that refers to specific layout guidelines in the css?
