Adding/modifying users with SQL calls

I was wanting to add/modify users via mysql calls from another program. I had a look thru the docs, especially the database description (http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Database_Description ). Is there any extra information? The users are not able to post, which avoids one source of orphans.
