I have custom WordPress Roles, such as, Leadership (Read), which is duplicated from Subscriber. This particular role is a supplemental role which has access to certain things. When this role is either the Primary or a 2ndary role to a Primary role of Subscriber, the user cannot log in. They will receive the white page. As soon as I turn the WordPress role back to Subscriber (and remove any secondary roles), it will work. This recently became an issue, but I do not know why.

This is also affecting the User Switching plugin too, so I can not even switch users anymore. Once the 2ndary roles are removed, it starts working immediately.

    Hi @tekgeist

    Thanks for using our plugin.

Could you please check if your secondary role have “read” capability?

Nothing has changed in my setup except that PP has updated recently. Yes, these are standard WP Roles exact duplicates of Subscriber. Then I use PP to add the extra SPECIFIC permissions.

@tekgeist Sorry, I thought you using our other plugin PublishPress Capabilities.

When this role is either the Primary or a 2ndary role to a Primary role of Subscriber, the user cannot log in.

How do you add secondary role on your website?

Using your menu options under the Users page, Subscriber is primary followed up by the Secondary roles. This has never been issue until these updates came out recently.

It seems like it’s not stacking the Additional Permissions. Instead, it’s failing because it’s ignoring the Primary and only doing 2ndary. My Leadership (Read) role is just stacking two additional permissions, so Subsriber has to work for my WP Site to load. I think this is what is happening.

The reason why I know this is that if I do Leadership by itself it will fail. It’s because the Leadership role is just adding two additional permissions to the required Primary.

Also, does this new Role Usage screen have something to do with this? This seems to be a new thing that was added to PP Permissions.

I think I figured it out. WP Cerber Security was causing the issue. I disabled it, and now it’s working. I am not sure what is going on, but they broke the Roles somehow.
