Hi @onojane,
I tried to replicate this on my end by cloning the Administrator role and removing only the Users capabilities, but I was still able to delete images in the Media Library.
Could you please check if you have any other plugins installed that extend or restrict media permissions? For example, plugins that manage uploads, file access, or author-specific media can sometimes override the default capabilities.
Once we know that, we can narrow this down further.
Hi Omar, I tried disabling all plugins except Members and changed my theme to Twenty-Twenty-Five but the problem still exists.
Hi @onojane,
Thanks for testing that and confirming it happens even with only Members active and a default theme.
To help us better understand what’s going on, could you please share:
- A short screen recording showing how to reproduce the issue step by step.
- A screenshot of the role’s capabilities (from Members > Roles > [select the role]) so we can see what permissions are currently enabled.
That information will help us pinpoint exactly where the issue is coming from.
Thanks so much for your help — we’ll take it from there once we have that info.
Sorry, I guess I changed more than the user capabilities and forgot. I cloned the administrator again and changed the settings for Users only and I can delete Media Library files. Do you have any idea what other capabilities are needed for this as I did not remove any capabilities in the Media category.

Hi @onojane,
Sorry, but as I got you want to allow users role to delete media files, so am I missing something?
