Admin panel contains only Dashboard tab

    While installing WordPress, I created an admin account. When I log in to the Admin panel as admin, I see only one tab – Dashboard. Moreover, when I try to write a post after logging in as admin, I get the following error message:

    Since you’re a newcomer, you’ll have to wait for an admin to raise your level to 1, in order to be authorized to post.
    You can also e-mail the admin to ask for a promotion.
    When you’re promoted, just reload this page and you’ll be able to blog. 🙂

    Since I am the administrator, I see no reason why I can’t see the complete Admin panel. How do I get the complete Admin panel working, and how do I raise the user level?

    Sounds like the admin user does not have the Administrator Role. Can you login with the ‘admin’ user that was created when the blog was installed and promote that user you create to the administrator role.

    If you don’t know the login for that user, use something like phpMyAdmin to look at the wp_users table to see the user_login.

    I can log in as the ‘admin’ user; however, I do not see anything other than the Dashboard tab on the admin page.

    There is no way I can use a GUI to promote the user level. And I am not sure which database tables I should manually manipulate to do the same.

    Sounds like you didn’t get a good installation. I’d consider reuploading the WordPress files to your host, DROPping the MySQL tables and starting the install over.
