• Greetings,

I just purchased a theme & hosting package. I know this may not really be the right place since i’m using third – party hosts for my site, but upon setting up my site I receive an email directing me to login into my control panel “domain.com/wp-admin”, now when I click the link to log-in, I get sent to the godaddy page where my domain is stored. I unlocked my domain name, and changed the nameservers to the respective host.

Is this a common problem when recently setting up a wordpress site with a domain name ?

  • It is not a problem, but you have to link your domain to name servers (DNS) and your hosting, when only your site will become functional. Are you able to login now?

I just logged into my Godaddy account and changed the name servers to that of provided by my host Kahuna hosting.

    The domain name is unlocked.

What else should I do ?

Oh, it’s working now, but when I type in my domain name it goes to an Index page where it displays the following links:

    admin/
    guest/
    home/

The home/ link takes me to my page, but that page is only viewed on my laptop, nobody can access the site.

    I’m stuck at this crossroads.

    What is your domain name?

Oh, it’s working now since i changed the nameservers (thanks again).

The problem now is that when i type in my domain ilovefreeconerts.com it takes me to the index page.

when it type in ilovefreeconcerts.com/home it takes me to my website.

But when people try to view the site, they get a error message and can’t view my site.

    That’s my next hurdle.

That is because you installed WordPress at /home. You should install WordPress at the root so that when someone types your domain your site will open up directly.

Honestly, that’s what i’m trying to figure out at the moment, I’m very new to this.

Thank you so much for your help again.

I remember on my cpanel on Kahuna hosting i go to file manager -> web root -> public_html -> and there I see all the names that show up on that index page.

I think now you understand everything. You can ask your host also for support, guidance, etc. By practice, you will learn everything. There is nothing to worry about. OK?

Sounds good, thanks for your patience and help. The website at the home/ is now visible on other computers. I think the last step is finally getting that root thing down and I will be well off. Thanks again.

    You are welcome!
If the problem is solved you can mark this post as resolved.
