Hmmm, that sounds kind of odd in terms of what you’re seeing in the sidebar. Do you see an option for “Dashboard?” If so, can you click on that and find out what version of WordPress you are running?
It does sound like you’re running the plugin WordPress HTTPS, which has an option to located its “Admin Menu” in the WordPress sidebar or under the “Settings” menu. It might be set to located its settings under the “Settings” menu, hence you are not seeing “HTTPS Settings” in the sidebar.
Do you see an option for “Plugins” in the main sidebar?
Am wondering if you’ve been saddled with a WordPress install that has custom user roles and your role is only allowed to see certain things?

I do not have a “Plugins” option in the main sidebar. It is entirely possible that the administrator account that I am using has a custom role. The employee who has admin access isn’t in IT.
Well, you need to start from the “top” with full admin access, learn how everything works, then limit your user role privileges as deemed necessary, as it sounds like you’re being asked to do things at the full admin level. First step would be to learn how to do full backups, as well as auditing your hosting backup system, in case you mess something up while learning. A better way to learn is fool around with a “test” website. Problem is, you’ll probably get blamed if something goes wrong, even if it’s not really your fault, so beware. MTN
