Logged in today to find some kind of advertisement about Gifs. Was forced to click “Love the attitude, but…”

No. I DO NOT love the attitude. I don’t like ads being put on any of my sites without my full knowledge and consent. If you want to charge for this service, charge for it, but DO NOT place ads, or what amounts to an ad on my websites.

This same kind of thing is why I will never use Shareaholic again.

I would note that there is nothing in the changelog about this which I believe is against Repo rules.

Clef is great, but this will be a deal breaker. I hope you reconsider this move. Until I know you have I will not be recommending you again.

This is a perfect way to ruin everything you’ve worked for. Seriously.

  • Hi Corey,

You can easily disable Promoted Content ads for Shareaholic. Here’s a simple guide on how to turn it off: http://support.shareaholic.com/hc/en-us/articles/202365395-How-do-I-change-my-Promoted-Content-settings-

Let me know if you need help. Happy to help set this up for you again!

Hey Mary, thanks for the response, but this is actually on our end.

Corey — sorry that this was such a negative experience for you. We’re experimenting with how we can get users talking about Clef in a positive way. The prompt you saw was not an ad, just a prompt to ask you to share Clef: really sorry if that wasn’t clear. You will only ever see it once and we’re heeding your feedback internally as we think whether this is a good move for us.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to respond her or email me at [email protected].

    Thanks!

Ah… I wasn’t sure what was going on and didn’t want to click on the link. I will continue to speak in glowing terms regarding your service. I really do love it as long as you’re not going the ad route. 🙂

    I added a 5 star review for you. 😉

    Thanks,

For sure, REALLY appreciate the feedback — we are going to be making it more obvious and more fun. PS, try walking through the flow the next time you go to log in (there’s a little link at the bottom of the login page) and let me know what you think, if you like 🙂

Don’t know if you’re open to suggestions, but Cloudflare has a really nice marketing kit. I share various info from it a couple times a year, as well as putting it on my business websites.

Maybe you folks could do something similar?

I host clients as well, and Clef can really decrease the amount of brute force logins, which in turn reduces server load. I would be more than happy to pitch Clef to my clients. I’ve only been waiting to see how well it works.

Here’s an example of what they do

Thanks for the info Corey! We actually do something similar with our Safer Hosts program, but that’s primarily for large scale hosts. We’ll keep this in mind as we think more about smaller web designers working with clients 🙂
