Adsense without Opt-In?

    Hi everyone,

    I installed this plugin today and actually I really like it, because it seems easy to use and very helpful with GDPR. So thanks to the developers first 🙂

    I was wondering if it is possible to show Google Adsense ads even without the user having to opt-in.
    I tried to deactivate Google Ads/DoubleClick in Integrations panel and also tried to set the Google Cookies in the assistant to “functional/technical” cookies. But still I have to Opt-In as a user in order so see ads.

    Is there a (legal) way to show non-personalized ads from Google Adsense before the user actively opts in via the consentz tool?

    Hi Clemens,

    If configured correctly in AdSense, it’s possible to show non-personalized Ads under “Statistics”. Showing Ads before consent is impossible with the guidelines of the GDPR.

    At this moment I can see ads on your website, e.g. https://leiseshaus.com/home-office-tricks-fuer-dein-effektives-buero-zuhause, with only functional cookies enabled.

    On the right-hand side, a skyscraper is visible on 25% of the page more or less.

    thanks for your very quick reply.

    I did not know that showing Ads is not allowed without consent. I mean then nearly all the big publishers would act against the law. For example: https://www.sueddeutsche.de/

    I was pretty sure that it’s fine showing ads, as long there is no cookie that is set.

    The banner you can see on the mentioned post is a hard coded one from Amazon. So no cookies on that one. It is actually just an image with an outbound link.

    But for Adsense what do I need to do in order to deliver the non-personalized ads to the user? Should I switch all Adsense cookies without personal data collection in the assistant settings to “Statistics” instead of “Marketing”?

    Hi @malerbetriebmuhs2;

    Are you using a plugin to add ads, like Advanced Ads, or Ad Inserter? And are using Google Tag Manager? The latter would help to split the scripts in personalized and non-personanlized. Please let me know the precise set-up so we can try to work it out.

    yes I use Advanced Ads to insert my Adsense Ads with short code at the positions where I want them.
    I do not use Google Tag Manager at the moment. I used tag manager on other projects, where I wanted to track conversion events but for nothing else yet.

    @aahulsebos thanks for your Feedback,

    not really at the moment. I saw I would need Advanced Ads pro for that, which I do not own at the moment.

    I added the Cookie Consent for now, and it seems like a lot of people give their consent, at just a few do not allow measurement.

    I think I will stick to that one for now and think about using advanced ads pro with higher traffic volume.

    @aahulsebos @malerbetriebmuhs2 This is not working for me either. I am using Ad inserter Pro and followed these instructions below and it still does not show non-personalized ads for me. I need to show non-personalized ads either way.

    Is there a way to do this through Adsense directly so that it always shows non-personalized ads even if cookie is rejected? Or can you guys simply not reject the cookie for non-personalized ads?

    @aahulsebos Let me know if you have any tips to make this work through Ad Inserter Pro.

    Additionally, Most of my ads are pasted in manually in custom spots not even using Ad Inserter Pro, any way to make it show non-personalized ads in these scenarios? This is super important.
