Advanced debug of database access errors

    Is there a way to get specific database errors when I get the “Error establishing database connection” message on install of a new WP site? I’ve confirmed that the server can reach the database host on port 3306 via Telnet and the credentials in the wp-config.php file are correct.

    That’s about as specific as you’re going to get if there’s a database connection error. Best guess – there’s a problem with the database host details in wp-config.php

    I copied the various database host details from the wp-config.php file into MySQL Workbench installed on the server and was able to make a successful connection to the database, perform queries, etc.

    I’ll close this issue if I can’t get the info I need from WordPress. Thanks!
