Advanced Menu Structure and Functionality

    Hello,

    I’m developing a theme for a news portal and i’ve run into the following problem.

    When a single post is opened the menu item that is marked as current needs to be a static page.

    What i mean is the following:

    Lets say i have 3 pages in the menu:
    Home | Local News | World News

    Now although these pages may look like categories they wont be. I need them to be static pages as they may have defferent designs that have to be realized with shortcodes.

    What i need is a way to make the correct menu item marked as current when a post, lets say from Local News, is opened.

    Is there a way to accomplish that?

    I know how to use categories to that effect but the project requires me to use static pages instead.
