Affiliate Link Tracking

Hi,

I noticed my previous support thread on affiliate link tracking had been closed, so I thought I’d open a new topic.

I also noticed you had asked a few questions in a previous thread, and I was very happy to see that you have been working on this!

Below are the questions you asked, followed by my input:

I’m a bit confused as to which of this data has to be configurable:
– Obviously, the part of the URL has to be configurable, e.g. /out/ or /recommends/ or /affiliate/,
– Does it make sense to make the Event Category (‘affiliate link’ in this example) configurable? Or is it more sensible to group all clicks under this category?
– The Event Label is now set to be the clicked URL, does this make sense in your use case? And if not, should it be configurable?

The way I see it the main things that should be configurable is:

1.Yes, like you said the part of the URL, like /out/ or /go/ should be configurable.

2. Yes, I also think the Event Category should be configurable. Mainly because when switching from a different analytics plugin events can be registered in the same event category. My old one used ‘affiliates’ as the event category and it would be best to be able to continue to use this, as then I can compare old and new data easily.

3. Event Label – Yes, like you said the Event label should be the URL clicked like http://host.com/go/product-name.
I don’t see why this should be configurable, and would be very happy with it just being the click url. This seems to be the way it is typically done. Event Action is obviously just Click
