• Hi,

Google Webmaster Tools just reported that one permalink in my blog does not work – results in a 404 error. Following is the location in question:

    http://tech.mahesha.com/2008/04/15/shell-built-in-commands-in-perl-script/

    It is referenced in:

    http://tech.mahesha.com/2008/04/15/

Here is the error I get when accessing the broken permalink:

    Not Found
The requested URL /2008/04/15/shell-built-in-commands-in-perl-script/ was not found on this server.

    Apache/1.3.39 Server at tech.mahesha.com Port 80

All other permalinks work just fine. I wonder what is going wrong and am not sure how to debug this. Any ideas/leads will be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mahesh.

  • Hmmmm.. I wonder if the words in the permalink are triggering some kind of mod_security flag?

Edit the post and change the permalink slug to something like “the-quick-brown-fox” and then see if it can find that post. If that works, change the slug back to the original and try again..

    Just a thought.

Interesting! I edited the post to make the permalink slug ‘a-totally-irrelevant-link-name’. That worked just fine. But when I changed it back to the original, it was broken again.

Curently, I’ve settled on using ‘shell-built-in-commands-in-perl’, so it reflects the posts title. It works. May be its got something to do with the word ‘script’ in or at the end of the permalink.

    Thanks for your help.
    Mahesh.
