I recently moved from WordPress.com to ww.wp.xz.cn. I exported the content, which included hundreds of posts, from WordPress.com, and imported it into my self-hosted WordPress site. But now all the posts are showing the same date, which is the date I carried out the import.

Was this supposed to happen? Is there anyway I can fix it so that the original post dates show up?

Is this the guide you followed to move from WordPress.com to ww.wp.xz.cn.? If not, try reviewing it and see if anything is at miss.

@t-p Which guide? Did you mean to post a link?

Update: I asked WordPress.com and their AI suggested the Import External Images plugin, which will fix the post dates. But it is no longer available. Are there any alternatives to the plugin or any other method I can employ to fix this?

It seems the posts have the correct dates of their original publication in the database.

For instance, even though the date shown on the post “Gauri Lankesh: Chronicle of a murder foretold” is September 29 2023, it’s still listed in the October 2018 archive https://freespeechcollective.in/2018/10/ — and that can only happen if the post carries the correct original posting date.

I’ll go out on a limb and assume that:

    1) The migration may have effectively caused an “update” of the content
    2) The theme may be showing the modified date, rather than the published date

I installed the theme in question (ChromeBlog, a child theme of ChromeNews) and it has the option to display either the “Published Date” or “Modified Date”.

While the default is “Published Date”, I’d still check the setting to be sure yours is not configured to display the “Modified Date”. (Find the setting here: APPEARANCE > CUSTOMIZE > THEME OPTIONS > AUTHOR AND DATE SETTINGS > POST DATE TYPE)

    Standing by for feedback.

Yes! That fixed the issue. I must’ve changed the default at some point.

Thank you so very much. You’ve been a huge help.
