In addition to the settings you mentioned, where you create/edit posts or pages in admin, check if you have ticked comments for your posts/pages in the “discussion” box below the editor. If you don’t see the “discussion” box there, in the ‘screen option’ dropdown field (located near the top right), there are tick-boxes to show the ‘discussion’ box for the posts/pages. Tick mark it. In the ‘discussion’ box below the post/page editor, you can then allow/disallow comments for the page.

You’re talking about setting comments for individual Pages, but I need to ensure that every time I create a new Page, the box Allow comments. is checked by default.

Since WordPress 4.3, comments are turned off on pages by default.
Check out this plugin:

Thank you. It’d be great if this option was available on the WordPress settings page without the need of installing a plugin just for that.

Why? It’d be nice to have that OPTION back in the settings.

Hi, does the setting under
Settings > Discussion > Allow people to post comments on new articlesallow all future Pages to have Comments allowed by default? From what I’ve tried, I don’t think so. It ONLY works on future Posts, not Pages. Is that behavior correct? How can I make sure all of my future Pages will have Comments allowed by default please?
