Allow reinstalling currently installed version
-
Hello,
Since version 3.0.0, it is no longer possible to reinstall the currently installed plugin version as the Rollback button becomes disabled when the same version is selected.
This change was not mentioned in the changelog, so I wanted to ask whether this behavior is intentional.
I assume this was changed as reinstalling the same version may not be needed for most users. However, it does reduce convenience in support-oriented workflows where switching or reinstalling plugin versions is fairly common (e.g. reinstalling a clean copy or testing different builds that share the same version number).
At the moment, reinstalling the same version requires first rolling back to a different version and then updating again, which adds unnecessary steps.
So my request: Would you consider re-framing the “Rollback” action for the currently installed version as a “Reinstall” option instead of disabling the button?
I understand this mostly as a UX challenge, not a technical one, so one possible compromise could be:
- Allow reinstalling the currently installed version (incl. stable tag) with a clearer label on the button (e.g. “Reinstall currently installed version”)
- Avoid selecting the stable tag by default on the rollback page, so the rollback to a previous version remains the primary action if no further version selection is made
Thanks for your time, and for maintaining the plugin.
