Allow Users Write Access to Certain Pages?

Hi! I’ve been using WordPress for years and still struggle with this common request:
To give editors of the website permissions to edit certain sections only.

I’d like to give three people access to the “Teams” tab, all the content inside, and allow them to make new pages, and four people access to the “Events” tab, six people access to the “About” tab, and two people access to “Teams” and a “About”.

My guess is that I’d create user groups, assign users to each group, and then on each section, assign that group permissions to edit that page.

I’ve found a bunch of plugins that are ‘close’ to what I need to do, but none actually do it. I’ve been using workarounds for years, many of which eventually break the site, and I’m looking for a solution that can solve this problem. It’s a common feature in other CMSs, so I’m sure WordPress has one too.

Any ideas?
