I will admit, as a forum this is the best plugin you will find. Full of features and integrates well with WordPress overall. However, I have to be cynical here and lower the score due to the (in my opinion) over priced addons you have to buy separately in order to get features that other forum software have built in.
Don’t get me wrong, some addons are definitely worth the price, like the sync comments-posts across the board. But when you need to buy a addon just to get polls and on top of that renew this every year (yes, ALL addons are yearly subscription based if you want them updated). Again, I know how it sounds, I’m not saying that the developer should not get payed, but there need to be a understanding of useful addons and premium addons. In my opinion, polls, custom fields, private messages and the tags addons should have either a cheaper subscription or be a one time purchase as they are common on All forum software. You can even argue that buying a premium forum software like WoltLab or XenForo and run it from a subdomain would be cheaper than running WPForo on a yearly basis if you want basic features in your forum.
Anyway, it is still the best forum plugin for WordPress and the free features works well enough and that is where I’ll stay, it’s just not worth the yearly combined price.

Please see my comments below.The number of features in wpForo is close to one hundred, it even has four modern forum layouts and six stiles built-in for free. It has dozens of features that you cannot find in any forum software. And all that come built-in for free.

Please let me know which WordPress forum plugin has built in polls, custom fields, private messages features? Don’t compare wpForo with stand-alone forum softwares, you have to pay from $150 to $700 to WoltLab, XenForo or vBulletin to get all you want, but you’ll still miss about 30% wpForo features and 50,000 other WordPress free plugins that you use with wpForo.
You can even argue that buying a premium forum software like WoltLab or XenForo and run it from a subdomain would be cheaper…

In conclusion, I’d say there is no any forum software which can provide you with even 10% of WordPress + wpForo features. The number of features and the extending capability of WordPress + wpForo combo are unlimited and all that FREE. Even if you need to get some wpForo addons you just need to pay a few tens of usd. If you choose other forums, you’ll pay hundreds of dollars, and you’ll get a limited and outdated discussion board.
