    Set up Adminimize to allow subscriber access to create events and places, to show admin bar and dashboard for these options. No admin bar and now when I try to go to the login page I’m constantly redirected to the home page

    Adminimize can’t change the rights, the capabilities of a role, only hiding and prevent access to existing pages of a role!
    If you will change this, the access to a part of a plugin, you must change this rights, maybe via the plugin, if it have an option for this or you can try the plugin Members. That plugin give you the possibility to change roles and his capabilities.
