    This works exactly as advertised!

    You can create a sidewide block and combine this with Advanced Custom Fields. Now you can let a user edit a sidebar by just hovering over a spot and click ‘edit spot’

    No more letting users edit HTML in widgets.

    This functionality should be in the core of WordPress!
