I don’t know if It’s relevant, but my posts are using the cover template. On the AMP version the thumbnail simply doesn’t show (and if I activate the AMP on the homepage, the thumbnails doesn’t show as well.

Chaplin uses background images for some elements, including the previews and the cover template, which is probably why the AMP plugin can’t detect them. I’ve been meaning to change the theme to also include an image element everywhere a background image is used, to improve accessibility, print styles etc, and I’ll try to include that in the next update. It should fix your AMP issue as well.
