When we exported the analytics report from (Analytics > Orders > Export), we encountered an issue where users purchased more than once on the platform. The system incorrectly recognized them as “New users” rather than “Returning users” during their second or third purchase.
The user in the attached photo is a repeated user (Sarah Yang); it should be a returning user.

It looks like the system incorrectly labeled Sarah Yang as a new customer on a repeat order. This can sometimes happen if the user checked out as a guest, used a slightly different email, or if there’s a delay or inconsistency in how analytics data is processed.
Here are a few things you can check:
- Make sure the email used in both orders is exactly the same (no typos or case differences).
- Confirm whether the user was logged into their account during both purchases.
- If you’re using any third-party plugins that modify the checkout or order process, those might also affect how returning customers are tracked.
To help correct the data, you can go to WooCommerce > Status > Tools and run: Clear analytics cache
If the issue persists then please share with us:
- System Status Report, which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support.
- Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs. You could copy and paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.

Will clearing the cache cause any potential conflicts or affect existing functionalities?

Clearing the WooCommerce Analytics cache won’t cause any conflicts or affect your store’s functionality. It simply resets the stored reports and allows WooCommerce to regenerate them with the latest data.

Let’s take a step back and review the order notes for both orders. As @mahfuzurwp mentioned, could you confirm whether one of the orders was placed using guest checkout? Also, please check if the same email address was used for both orders.
For example , this user use the same account which is the same user id and use the same payment method. But when we exported the analytics report , both orders from the same users are showing “new” in the customer type.

Earlier, you shared information for a customer named Sarah, but now the screenshots show a customer named Santhesh. Please share screenshots of both the Edit Order page and the Exported CSV file for the same customer.

Sarah, after updating the plugin, the user type issue has been partially resolved. However, some user types are still not correctly identified—for example, the user Santhesh.
I’ve exported the latest analytics report, and it appears that the first order couldn’t capture the customer name. As a result, both orders are marked as coming from ‘new’ customers, when in fact they both belong to Santhesh.”

I’m glad to hear the issue is partially resolved.
I suspect this might have been a one-time issue and may not occur again. That said, I recommend waiting for another order to see if the problem persists. If possible, you can also ask Santhesh to place a test order to help confirm whether the user type is now being correctly identified.

Thanks, but is there any chance that we can solve this instead of partially solving it? Because we are counting users’ commission based on their user type, if the first or second time the user’s type is incorrect, we will give them an extra commission.

At this stage, we don’t have enough information to identify the root cause or provide a complete fix. That’s why I suggested waiting for a few more orders. In the meantime, could you manually verify the user type for new orders over the next few days? This will help us gather the details we need to better understand and resolve the issue.
