• I’ve tried installing the ‘ultimate preloader’ plugin. It’s elegant and sexy but it runs all the time and I don’t want that. I spent all day on this yesterday, now it’s time to ask for help because I’m obviously going round in circles. The header image for my site is scrolling down from the top as it loads.

and I hate that. I don’t care if there’s a two or three second delay – I just want that header image to appear – bang. NOT scroll down from the top. Yesterday I found a preloader that works. Here:

I’ve got it all working in ‘header.php’ in my child theme. The snippet is around 50 lines of jQuery / JS – I’m happy to post the snippet if anyone wants to see the code. As you can see I get ‘Loaded: 3/3. Done!’ – so the script is working. But I’m STILL getting that ugly scroll down of the header image from top to bottom. I tried dozens of jQuery functions yesterday to make the Header image fade up after a delay but my jQuery logic is not good enough to make it ONLY HAPPEN ONCE. Can anyone please shed light? Many thanks in advance.

Thank you, Henry. But I’ve checked it on other pc’s / macs / smartphones. The Header image is still doing the ugly scroll down on first load before being cached by the browser. I’ve been stuck on this for two days now. To be brief – I need a preloader script that will delay that Header image long enough on first load so that the Header image appears all at once. I don’t want a whizz bang preloader plugin. Surely there’s a snippet of jQuery / JS somewhere that can do that?
