Another incomprehensible error message

    First there was the “no shipping methods available for this area” error message that actually means “one or more of the products ordered doesn’t have a weight or dimensions” … How could I have possibly misunderstood the meaning of that error message? I have no idea. Don’t know, but it cost me a full day and consulting fees to get it sorted out.

    Now another error message with a delightfully entertaining wrinkle to it. It was time to update my WooCommerce USPS Shipping plugin, so I triggered the update and got this error message … from a plugin that was supposedly authored by Woothemes:

    Updating Plugin WooCommerce USPS Shipping (1/1)

    An error occurred while updating WooCommerce USPS Shipping: Before you can receive product updates, you must first authenticate your Elegant Themes subscription. To do this, you need to enter both your Elegant Themes Username and your Elegant Themes API Key into the Updates Tab in your theme and plugin settings. To locate your API Key, log in to your Elegant Themes account and navigate to the Account > API Key page. Learn more here. If you still get this message, please make sure that your Username and API Key have been entered correctly

    Disabling Maintenance mode…

    All updates have been completed.

    Did I miss a merger announcement or are error messages from this dev shack just a toss-off with no significance to the developer?

    Here’s the question:
    How do I update the plugin?

    Hi @agilityjeff,

    You’ve most likely got a plugin or theme from Elegant themes on your site and this product is hijacking the update routine.

    As I see it, you have 2 options here and whichever one you opt for requires you to, first of all, identify this Elegant Themes product that is active on your site:

    1. Deactivate the Elegant Themes product and proceed with the update of your USPS Shipping extension. You can activate the product again once you’re done.
    2. Authenticate your Elegant Themes subscription per the message received and then go ahead and update your USPS extension

    Bear in mind that if the USPS extension in question is this one from WooCommerce.com – USPS Shipping Method, you must have a valid subscription for it and make sure that your site is connected to your WooCommerce.com account.

    You can do this by going to WooCommerce → Extensions → WooCommerce.com Subscriptions and clicking on the Connect button.

    Once you’ve sorted this out, you’ll be able to update your extension from your WordPress dashboard like any other plugin.
