I just looked at the error in err.log and I am relaying here for someone to help please.
The error is-
PHP Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home2/…/wp-content/themes/curiosity-lite/inc/breadcrumbs.php on line 67
Does this mean there could be something wrong with the theme ?
I am getting the same message for two days in a row. The message just does not disappear and i cannot update
I am experiencing the same thing. Getting the same message “Another upgrade is currently in progress”. The message does not disappear and I can not update. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS ISSUE???
That message should clear itself after about 15 minutes. YOu may want to try a manual update if the automatic one failed

I had the same experience. The message did not disappear. I the went to the wp backpanel/my sites/dashboard/upgrade network and that fixed the problem for me

That’s only for multisite.

Same problem, and I’m updating the core to 4.6. Message won’t go away. I am not running multi-site. Cannot run update.
aielloio: Please start a new thread for your issue.
Point of info – if you see this message when you try to update, but the rest of WP works normally, it may be you just need to click the update database button as happened to me today.
You can probably sort it by visiting /wp-admin root to trigger the database update notification, or maybe by logging out and back in.
I say this because oddly, for me the notification did not appear after the update as is normal, and only when I visited the root wp-admin. No idea why.
Had the same problem this afternoon. My original update to 4.6 seemed to fail based on a timeout. Anyway, based on the advice above, I logged out, logged back in, restarted the update.
The update went through fine. Thanks for the help.
I had the same issue today. I logged out and logged in back and saw this message “You have the latest version of WordPress. Future security updates will be applied automatically.”
So thought it was showing me this message “Another update is currently in progress” But in the background, my update of WP was working on.

Delete from database table wp_options row with name ‘core_updater’ or ‘core_updater.lock’
I went to the Updates page, clicked the ‘Check again’ button, then tried to update again and it worked.
I’m having this issue. All of the above suggestions have not worked. There is no ‘core_updater’ (or ‘core_update.lock for that matter) in my wp_options table and hitting the check again doesn’t work either. I’ve waited 24 hours and it hasn’t cleared.
