Not here to neg, just wondering you’re informed advice on doing similiar without a service like criticalcss.com ?

Problem is for rules to be automagically created, you need a 3rd party service with an API which the plugin can talk to to generate the CCSS. Generating CCSS is CPU intensive and given expected volumes (esp. when free) it would incur significant server costs. I have not seen such a free service yet.

So no comparable plugin to run on own server?

there are 2 premium (as in; commercial) performance plugins that have critical CSS generation in them but I don’t know of entirely free solutions no.

well, it seems a node.js project by one of the performance-leads at Google, but (as far as I know) there is no publicly available free service that has this running which AO could connect to? 🙂
