• We created a new WordPress site in a sub-site called Staging. When it was ready to publish, we replaced the root files with the contents of the Staging sub-site. It worked, but has been too long for me to remember how we moved the files.

Since then, when I try to use Appearance > Customize, I get a 404 error and the location shown as being customized is the staging sub-site – staging.agilen2n.org.

I am using the Javelin theme, which was added when we created the replacement site.

I need to make some appearance changes. Any ideas on what to do to correct this error?

    Thanks

  • Hi @aberow
Did you modify the new address in the database?
After moving the site to a new address, the address in the database must be corrected
You also need to update the permalinks settings once (not change just update)

    Hi Asadiyan –

Thank you for the response and your patience with this slow response.

I have little experience with WordPress and apologize if these questions are obvious.

When you say address, so you mean URL? If so, it did not change. I overwrote the parent domain with the sub-domain. I have no problems accessing anything in the new version of the site and the URL in the URL window in the browser is what I expect.

I looked at the permalinks using Settings => Permalinks and found no issues.

My problem appears to be limited to the old sub-domain being the target of Appearance => Customize.
