  • Hey ryumaster,

We are uncertain at this time. I cannot find a specific announcement as it relates to unannounced restrictions being placed on Facebook Groups but in light of the unannounced changes made to the Instagram API today this is quite possible.

I am unable to obtain any group data (even on open groups) at this time. If I can locate specific information to confirm this as it relates to Faceboook Group accounts I will post back here. There does appear to be significant API changes being made with both Facebook and Instagram at this time.

    Hey Kerrinrose,

It appears Facebook has made unannounced API changes yesterday and they will no longer allow data from Group accounts to pass through their API to be displayed on a website unless you have a User Access Token obtained as the administrator of the group. Other data elements have now been restricted as well.

These are changes being made by Facebook itself to increase the security of personal data and also to address data privacy issues that have surfaced recently.

Facebook has recently suspended access to new/non-active accounts which might make it impossible for people to obtain a token if they don’t already have an app set up. These are changing times for Facebook so what the final outcome of what data will remain available or how the security concerns will affect a feed have yet to be determined.

You can find additional information here on the most recent change.

    Hey alhbin,

It does not appear that data from any Facebook Group type (Public group, open group, or closed group with or without a valid User Access token is being allowed to pass through Facebook’s API at the moment. As a developer we are uncertain as to what the final outcome will be as it relates to data from Group accounts as no clear direction has yet been released by Facebook to indicate this.

The current issue is a result of an unannounced change made yesterday by Facebook. As these changes continue to occur we will be providing updates to our plugin making sure it is compliant to delivering the data endpoints that Facebook is still willing to share.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your patience as we determined how these Facebook changes will affect our plugin. Unfortunately, it appears that it’s no longer possible to display a feed from a Facebook Group. We really apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this causes – Facebook didn’t give any prior warning about this and so we didn’t have a chance to notify users in advance. Please see this post for more information on the full effect of the Facebook changes on our plugin.

    John
