    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to assign categories to old posts (or vice-versa). I recently migrated from Blogger which allowed me to go back through my old posts and simply assign categories to selected ones. Is there any such thing available in WordPress?

Incidentally, I have tried to install this plugin, but get a fatal error when I try to activate it.

    Thanks.

Well, you should be able to go to the Manage Posts page, navigate to the old pre-WP posts and click Edit and assign them a category just as you would if you were typing a new post. My blog has been around since 2002 and it is an alamgamation of Blogger, Greymatter (don’t laugh) and finally WordPress. I was able to go back and assign categories to all my old posts with ease. You shouldn’t need a plugin for that. Granted, it’s time consuming, if you have a lot of posts, but it can be done.

Yes, well, the time-consuming part is what I hoped to avoid. :-/

I’ve got 800+ posts to wade through. Going the manual route might take me years!

assuming a generous 30 seconds per post, doing it that way would take you about seven hours. You posted this thread about a day ago. You could have been done by now 😉

Seriously, there are plugins which let you mass-modify posts, trawl through the plugin repository here on this site.

Ok ok, if you want to get all literal about it! I’d still have to allow for recovery times for the tendons in my wrist, though. 😉

I’ll check out the plugins. Thanks for the tip.
