Hi! I destroyed my site the other day by loading another domain at the server root and downloading WP to it… lost story short I tried to access and use updraftplus but got an error saying the backup was made of a different domain? I cant find how to change this setting? The only thing I can think of is that we have the wordpress address of https://www.johnpaulpilgrimagesandtours.com/wordpress and the site address of https://www.johnpaulpilgrimagesandtours.com?

could this be the problem? anyway, I fixed by having the server host (godaddy) restore the server database, but I hoped I would have been able to do this with updraft?

I would purchase the premium version to make sure I dont have this issue in the future if suggested.

    thanks for your help!

    Hi,

To confirm where the site used to live when the site was created, you can open up the database backup – the db.gz file – and read the lines at the top. If you’re on Windows, then 7-zip from 7-zip.org can de-compress it… and after then, you should be able to open it up in Microsoft Write, or any other text editor.

Yes, the Premium version has the extra code needed to take a backup created at a different site address, and to adjust it to fit the new site, if the site address has changed (which it sounds like it has – the warning message is produced by doing a straight compare of what’s in the db.gz file with the current WP install’s site address).

    Best wishes,
    David

Thanks David. Is there any setting I can adjust the url name now in UpDraftPlus? so this doesnt happen again?

    Hi mpierz,

The question doesn’t make sense – it’s not UD that decides where the URL of the site is. Or am I misunderstanding the question?

Hi David, thank you for helping me on this. This is what I found in the file: Backup of: http://www.johnpaulpilgrimagesandtours.com/wordpress
    # Home URL: https://www.johnpaulpilgrimagesandtours.com
    # Content URL: http://www.johnpaulpilgrimagesandtours.com/wordpress/wp-content
But I dont really know what to do with this information.. I do remember having an error saying the url was mismatched during the restore attempt, and that I should get the migration addon?

    Hi,

If you saw that message about a mismatch, then it indicates that your WordPress site is not installed at the same location as before. The free edition of UD won’t successfully restore a site in that setup – it does not include the code necessary to modify the site database to fit in with the changed location. (Lots of your links will be pointing to the wrong places – broken images, etc.). If you want to use the free edition with that backup, then you’d need to de-install WordPress, and re-install it at a location that matches the setup of the previous install that the backup was created on.

    Best wishes,
    David
