check your .htaccess file for any rule that makes your site password protected.

If you find one, if you don’t intend on password protecting your site in that way, just delete that section from your .htaccess file.

Thanks Tara, but unfortunately I don’t seem to have an .htaccess file.

I have set up pretty permalinks and don’t see it even with “forced showing hidden files” in FileZilla. I’m assuming this is because I auto installed wordpress through GoDaddy on a windows server, so either it is restricted or not needed?

Is there a fix e.g. within the web.config file or could I create an .htaccess file manually?

FYI, I surrendered and switched hosting to Linux – was an artefact that I was using Windows anyway…
