But there should be some plugin with that exact functionality. WordPress has the categories dropdown by default, so there should be some plugin that adds the same thing for authors. Did you manage to find anything like that?

There’s every other taxonomy dropdown except for authors.

A Search and Filter plugin might work to give you a dropdown for authors. I am currently exploring this to filter my author’s list by a custom attribute added to the shortcode. I’ll report back here when i get something working 🙂

@gareth-wynn No luck on my end for my particular use case, but maybe for you, Dynamic User Directory could provide some author dropdown options. They have a dropdown option for certain attributes. May be worth exploring. Best of luck!
This looks like an option. I’ll definitely try it out. I ended up using Axact Author List Widget – https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/knr-author-list-widget/ which does the trick for now.
