    Perhaps I just need more sleep, or the wording of the settings is confusing me, but here is what I am looking to do:

    1. A registered user/member posts a topic. When someone replies to that topic, the author of the topic gets email notification.

    2. When any topic is created by anyone, the Admin (me) gets notified. When anyone posts a reply to any topic, I get notified as well.

    I don’t want my members to get notifications on topics and replies that does not relate to the topics they created…in other words, I don’t want everyone to be subscribed to every single topic or reply that gets posted by anyone and everyone.

    With setting up my site on bbPress now, people are not realizing or forgetting to check the box for subscribing to their topic for replies. I am also not getting notifications of topics being created, and already missed support requests up to 3 days old. I didn’t realize that bbPress does not auto notify admins of new posts.

    That all depends on your settings! Let’s go by parts…

    1. A registered user/member posts a topic. When someone replies to that topic, the author of the topic gets email notification.

    Only if a) the author belongs to a role that is set to receive notifications of replies (in which case all people from that role will also receive it) or b) You selected to Override Core Subscriptions for Topics and the author clicked the subscribe link or selected to be notified of follow-up replies via email.

    2. When any topic is created by anyone, the Admin (me) gets notified. When anyone posts a reply to any topic, I get notified as well.

    Only if you checked the Administrator role checkbox in the Topics notification settings.

    I don’t want my members to get notifications on topics and replies that does not relate to the topics they created…in other words, I don’t want everyone to be subscribed to every single topic or reply that gets posted by anyone and everyone.

    You can hook into an action or filter to automatically subscribe users to their own topics. There’s also a plugin that has the option to leave the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” checked. I just can’t remember the name off the top of my head.

    I didn’t realize that bbPress does not auto notify admins of new posts.

    That was the original purpose of my plugin – to automatically notify admins. Double-check your settings under Forums > Email Notifications to see if Admins are checked to receive notifications of topics (and replies, if you want those as well).

    Thank you Vinny for the follow up. So if I understand correctly, it’s all dependent on someone checking the box to be notified on posts.

    This is the first time I am using bbPress compared to the Kunena forum I was using on the Joomla site, but can see bbPress in general is very limited/basic.

    Anyway, again, thank you for the follow up and clarifying my questions.

    Again, that depends on your settings. You can force notifications if you choose the role to which your users belong. You can even force authors to receive notifications of their own posts if you check the right checkbox.

    Yes, bbpress is quite simple out of the box, and that’s on purpose. There are dozens of plugins built to extend it, so you can install just the functionality you want without bloating your bbpress install.
