I love your plugin. It does exactly what I was after.

I’m not new to PHP but I am new to WordPress, please forgive if I say something dumb 🙂

I am using a user-post plug-in (Frontier Post) which does not allow for a Discussion Meta Box (not that I would want users to have one, anyway). Therefore only posts I make from the admin area can be manipulated with the plug-in.

ALL post-related topics are started in one forum (Debates).

What I want is for either

(A)the plug-in to work automatically on the Frontier Post posts (in other words, on every single post created on the site) – to always replace comments, to always start a topic in the Debates forum – to always “activate” with fixed variables (to show replies only on post page)

    or

    (B) the plug in to create the topic when a link on the post page (say, “debate”) is activated.

I am perfectly willing to make a donation/pay for help with this.

Did I mention I love your plugin.

  • Hi opinynated –

I’m very glad to hear you like the plugin!

It sounds like you could satisfy option (A) by setting this plugin to create topics by default. You can change that in your site’s Discussion settings page. That screen also lets you set the default forum as well as default display settings.

I did a quick test with Frontier Post, and it looks like it works if you set the status to Published when you first create a post, but not if you create a draft and then publish it later. Anything that uses wp_insert_post and wp_update_post should work with this plugin, so I’m thinking it’s a bug and I’ll see what’s going on.

There’s been another request for something like option (B) and I like the idea, but it keeps ending up on the back burner.

OK – confirmed it is a bug. A fix has been committed to the development version and a new release will be out in the next few days.

    Thanks for catching this!

    Hi David,

Thanks for your prompt reply 🙂

I had a look through the Discussion settings and cannot find anything that would allow me to set the plug-in to become a default behavior.

Do you mean this page?: wp-admin/options-discussion.php

I also checked the post-page discussion settings for the plug-in itself and could also not find a way to make it default.

I’m reluctant to start mucking with the plug-in as I am not familiar enough just yet with the “WordPress way”.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Okay, now I feel dumb. I found it. Geesh. I should *not* work from airports on tablets. I just shouldn’t. Thanks!

This is resolved in the most recent version (1.8.1). Thank you again for reporting this and please let me know if you run into anything else!
