I emailed earlier regarding automatic notifications, if there were a setting I needed to place in order for new posts to trigger a subsequent notification to my users. I was told “No, you don’t have to do anything. Once you’ve set-up a New Post Published notification you don’t have to set it up again and will send an email each time you publish a new post.”

I have registered on my site an alternate email and username for myself, as a “subscriber”, to see if I would get these updated notifications — I have not received any. So, I question if I have the plug-in set up properly, or not.

    Thank you!

    Hi RP,
    Thanks for your message.

Can you provide some more detail about your set-up, such as which notification you’re using, how you’re triggering notifications (are you posting via the front or back-end), are you using an email delivery services / plugin or checking the emails are definitely being sent, etc.?

If you can provide screenshots, that would be most helpful.

    Thanks,
    Jack

I apologize for my lack of details. I am a nominal WP user who simply posts articles to my site and desire for my users to receive notification when something new has been posted.

I created a user login using my gmail address to verify that those notifications are being sent. However, I have not received anything yet. This tells me that my other users are not receiving anything either. I thought by installing your plug-in that would be fixed, but I have not seen the results I was hoping for.

Here is the screenshot you asked for that shows how I have my notifications set:

** I further apologize, it seems I cannot figure out how to include my screenshot. I tried simply pasting it into this reply, but that’s not working…

This is the best I could come up with (I simply “ctl+a; ctl+c; ctl+v”:

    Hi @rockinpreacher,
    Thanks for clarifying.

At this point, without knowing more, I’d suggest installing and going through the set-up wizard for the Postman SMTP plugin to ensure email delivery.

If that doesn’t work, we can revisit.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks,
    Jack

@rockinpreacher, I had the same problem. After installing postfix on my Ubuntu 14.04.5 server, the problem resolved and notifications now are sent. I’d second Jack’s suggestion. Good luck.

I appreciate your attention to this matter! I took a look at the plug-in you suggested and found myself drowning in a pool of instruction I was not comfortable performing.

I’m a simple man who has just enough knowledge of tech to navigate nominal things; but, when it comes to configuring and making changes that affect the overall functionality of my site, I don’t want to mess-up what I already have going.

My site is growing (for some reason) by leaps and bounds, and I don’t want to mess that up. By this weekend I will have over 1,000 registered users — worldwide — and it’s more important to continue in the direction we are going. I just thought if I had a ‘notification’ capability I could be of greater value to my users!

The following error message is now positioned at the top of my Dashboard: “Postman is not configured and is mimicking out-of-the-box WordPress email delivery.” I have not proceeded beyond the suggested actions “Email log | Settings.”

    Hi @rockinpreacher,
    Ok, no problem.

At this point, if you’re feeling overwhelmed but want the site to work properly, I’d probably recommend sourcing a WordPress developer (such as myself) to help.

If you contact me via the BNFW website, we can discuss your requirements and costs.

    Thanks,
    Jack
