Automatic plugin installation/update without using plugin repository?

    Hi,

    I didn’t find anything about is, so I’m asking here:

    1. Is there a special format of the zip-file of a plugin so it can be used in the integrated installer in wordpress 2.7?

    2. Is there a way to use automatic upgrade for a plugin, that is not in the official plugin repository? I.e. by using a special upgrade URL or readme file on the plugin’s website?

    I also do not understand the fact, that I’m asked for an FTP Login when I use the installation function via zip. Is there any documentation about it? I couldn’t find it.
