Automatic reporting by email doesn’t work

Hi,
For some reason, currently unknown, the automatic sending of a reporting doesn’t work. No mail is sent.
When I click on “Send now”, it works (just to explain that sending mails in general works).

I have tried some wp_config constants etc.. but I can’t see why sending automatically isn’t working, except it just doesn’t work… Other cronjobs are working and doing their jobs..

Any idea?..

Hi @wpblogwriter, are you using a system cron job to run the WP cron? If so, perhaps your PHP CLI is not configured in the same way as the PHP that handles web requests. If not, do you know if any other WP cron jobs are sending emails properly?

Hello,
I am wondering that the diagnosis tool says that I am still using PHP 7.4.33 for WP CLI but the website is running with PHP 8.4. When I run wp cli info, I have this:
wp cli info
OS: Linux 6.8.0-71-generic #71-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Jul 22 16:52:38 UTC 2025 x86_64
Shell: /usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh
PHP binary: /usr/bin/php8.4
PHP version: 8.4.10
php.ini used: /etc/php/8.4/cli/php.ini
[…]
WP-CLI version: 2.12.0

I don’t know why, I read WP CLI, but you meant PHP CLI.. The thing is as a default 7.4 is available, but there are paths to the other versions.. We tried to set the other paths in the config but it didn’t help.

@wpblogwriter it seems like Matomo is detecting the wrong PHP version. You can fix it by following the steps here: https://matomo.org/faq/how-to-solve-the-error-message-your-php-cli-version-is-not-compatible-with-the-matomo-requirements/. Set the path to /usr/bin/php8.4.

Hi @dizzyatinnocraft,

This was already added (I diodn’t specifiy it clearly before).
php_binary_path = “/usr/bin/php8.4”

Still having:
The detected PHP CLI version does not match the PHP web version. To avoid archiving errors, enable archiving via HTTP requests, or manually set the path to your PHP CLI executable to the one for PHP version 8.4.10.

@wpblogwriter can you check your open_basedir configuration in php.ini (https://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.open-basedir) to see if the /usr/bin/php8.4 path or part of it is blocked?

Hello @dizzyatinnocraft , this was finally one good point. I have added /usr/bin/php8.4 and now the notice in Diagnosis has disappeared. But unfortunately the reports are still not sent.

@wpblogwriter can you provide your system report: https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/how-do-i-find-and-copy-the-system-report-in-matomo-for-wordpress/ ? If you don’t want to post it here, you can email dizzy (at) innocraft (dot) com.

Also, can you tell me we what WordPress plugin you are using to provide emailing support (for example, “WP Mail SMTP”)? Can you check that it doesn’t need any extra configuration to be able to send mails when invoked via PHP CLI?
