automatic SKU variation by attribute

Hello,
I have a question regarding the SKU of a product variations. Is there a way to automatically add an attribute to a product based on the selected variation during the order process?

My goal is to avoid the manual creation of new variations for each product. Ideally, I would like this attribute to be applied automatically to generate a SKU after the order is confirmed.

Example: I have a SKU for a t-shirt: S000 and a color option red
I would like to automatic generate this SKU: S000-red after the order confirmation and avoid to create a new SKU with variation for each product
