Oh…now I refreshed my admin page and have this error:
“An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”
I’m not so sure I should. What does that error mean and will I do any damage if I try the update again?
You could try the update again. If it fails to work again, follow the instructions for performing a manual update (http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended)
I did a manual update – I even went as far as totally killing my database and emptying the entire folder and doing a fresh install of 3.1 from a manual upload. Got the admin area working but the front end of mine still hangs.
Have you tried contacting your host to see if the issue is on their side?
This is OUR server. We are the host.
I finally killed one of the sites entirely and restored an install of 3.0.5 and it is running just fine. Which was fine because this was just a test site used for theme development – but the other site is a site currently in development that had real content on it.
I had the same problem; saw the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” for about 15 minutes.
I managed to log back into the site, but it said “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”. (The Dashboard said I was running v3.1).
So I gave it a shot, and the upgrade has now completed and all looks good.
Not the best start to a new release. I think I’ll wait a while before upgrading my other sites. Luckily I started with a site that isn;t yet public facing.
Like TheDogBox, I tried it again and the updated finally worked.
I’ll close this thread as my problem was solved. But yeah, not the best start for a new release!
