Automatic update stopped working

    The ‘update automatically’ function in my installation of WordPress stopped working a few weeks ago. When I click on ‘proceed’ after having filled in the appropriate password on the page ‘Connection information’, I get redirected to an almost blank page: WordPress sidebar on the left, welcome message on the rest. And nothing else.

    Any ideas? Manually updating is a bitch 🙁

    * Running proper PHP and MySQL version, according to WordPress 3.2 Requirements check plugin
    * Problem started a few weeks ago (running WP 3.1.*)
    * According to my hosting provider, it might be a problem with permissions
