When I let Easy Updates Manager update the plugins on this site, the layout breaks. When I do it manually, there is no problem. I’m not sure why that would be the case, but I suspect that when I do it manually, somehow a cache is not flushed but when I’m logged into the admin interface it gets cleared. I don’t know if that’s the case, but just a suspicion.

I’ve had it happen with any number of different plugins, but for testing purposes, I’ve been using MailPoet. I only have MailPoet and Easy Updates Manager activated. I downgrade MailPoet and then the next day when the automatic updates have run, I return to the site and see the layout broken.

Is there a way that I can debug what EUM is doing to try and create a log for the update process to see if there is a specific point where there is a problem?

    Thanks!

MailPoet uses internal caching to optimize performance,

MailPoet does not automatically clear the entire WordPress site cache by default, but it is designed to work with caching plugins to ensure forms and emails function correctly

I suspect that the cache is not being cleared fully after an automatic update. Try installing a caching plugin to work with mail poet, we have a free one: https://en-gb.ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wp-optimize/

Unless you are checking in an incognito browser, it’s possible you are seeing a version of the web page cached by your browser when do in a manual update meaning the issue is there, you are just not seeing it.

    Hi,

    thanks for the response.

I have a caching plugin (LiteSpeed) but I have it disabled because LiteSpeed folks have confirmed already that it’s not their issue.

I’m using MailPoet to test, but it’s happened on a number of plugin updates, not just MailPoet. I’ve deactivated all the other plugins just for troubleshooting.

Yes, it’s obviously some kind of caching issue, but I’m trying to narrow down exactly what happens on an automatic update that’s different from a manual one. Without a caching plugin, what is doing the caching? That’s what I’m trying to figure out. That’s why I’m asking about how to debug the Easy Updates Manager plugin so that I can better see what’s going on.

    Thanks!

The only difference is that automatic updates use your scheduler.

There is no reason that this should only be happening on scheduled updates. Cache issues would affect both automatic and manual updates.

EUM has a “Log” tab so it’s worth checking there for any issues. Here you can see the slack trace i.e a break down of what happened during the update.
