Automatically Generated Shortcodes in 2.0?

Is there any chance (or an option that I’m missing) to make the NextGen 2.0 insertion interface generate short codes as was done in pre 2.0 versions? This made it very easy to generate the code and then duplicate that code for multiple images.
With the 2.0 handling of image insertion, a custom link is build to what appears to be a custom gallery, which is presumably stored off in a database somewhere to indicate what images are selected. While functional, it means that every image must be inserted graphically or the short codes written from scratch.
