• Hello,

Tried installing Autoptimize, but unfortunately things haven’t worked out – so far.

The admin panel and the loading of the site itself have slowed dramatically, even when the plugin has every box unchecked.

The issue *seems* to be the fact that the site is located in a subdirectory (altfg.com/film). WordPress sent us an email explaining that “a plugin” was requesting the file “altfg.com/film/film/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” – which, of course, doesn’t exist (…film/film/…).

We’ve done quite a bit of research, but couldn’t find a solution to this problem.

In the near future, we’re planning on moving the site to the root directory. But for the time being, what can we do to get Autoptimize to work?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Strange … AO doesn’t even try optimizing the admin panel so that is pretty surprising to begin with. Moreover I’m running AO in a subdirectory myself for development & testing purposes and have not experienced such issues. Re. the broken admin-ajax.php; AO only uses that to clear the cache when you click on “clear cache” in the top menu bar, did you indeed try that?

My gut feeling says this is a conflict of some kind, with another plugin or your theme. Can be hard to troubleshoot, but if you’re up for that try disabling/ re-enabling plugins on at a time and (if no culprit plugin found) briefly switch themes to one of the “stock” WordPress ones?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry, forgot to say in the initial post that all plugins were deactivated (12 of them, including Supercache) after installing Autoptimize and noticing the increased latency, especially at the backend.

We also tried switching to the default WP theme to make sure it wasn’t a conflict with the theme we’re using – which, according to its documentation and forum, is 100% compatible with Autoptimize.

We’re assuming (we’re no experts) the latency is a consequence of this mysterious call for the nonexistent “altfg.com/film/film/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” file. (The actual file is found at “altfg.com/film/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” – only one “film” subdirectory.)

Any ideas on what could be causing this faulty call?

    Thanks again.

well, AO only uses admin-ajax when the “clear cache” link is clicked in the top menu bar, did you do that?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Not on the top menu bar, though I did click on save/delete cache a few times while trying different checking/unchecking Autoptimize boxes.

I’ve just reactivated Autoptimize. Unfortunately, the issue continues.

The site is on a dedicated server, but could it be an issue with the server’s settings?

    Thanks again.

should not, AO is pretty light on requirements. anything in the php errorlog?

    No, nothing.

    It’s puzzling.

We’ll see what we can come up with at our end.

And your prompt replies have been much appreciated.

well, if you’d have a staging (acceptance) version of your site and assuming the same thing happens there, then we could investigate there?

    Unfortunately, we don’t.

We’ll see what we can do at our end. Thanks again for your prompt assistance.
