Autoptimize – Total Blocking Time

    Version (update) 3.1.0 to 3.1.1 on August 15th, increased my Site’s Total Blocking Time. I’ve seen this consistently over the last several days using GT Metrix.

    What should I do to decrease TBT?

    That’s weird .. there were no significant changes between 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 that would explain that change Mike. If you want you can always download and re-install 3.1.0 to re-test (and compare the resulting HTML to see what is different)?

    When testing with Pagespeed Insight I indeed see 1.9s TBT, but of that 1.5s is due to 3rd party JS (Recaptcha, Maps are the big culprits):

    Best approach for Maps would be to use an image of a map and have that link to (a page with embedded) Google Maps.

    Recaptcha is another issue, I have yet to see a good way to render its performance-impact less severe .. :-/

    How do I reinstall a prior version on my site? If I want to re-install ver. 3.1.0, would it overwrite all my settings? Would I need to reset everything to what I had previously?

    Frank, I understand that the embedded map and Recaptcha are not optimal. I did not change anything for either when I updated Autoptimize from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1 but I saw an increase in TBT using GT Metrix.

    simply download the zipfile and then go to plugins -> add new -> upload

    If I want to re-install ver. 3.1.0, would it overwrite all my settings? Would I need to reset everything to what I had previously?

    no settings are overwritten, nothing to be done really.

    Were you able to rollback Mike and did that improve the TBT?

    I rolled it back to ver. 3.1.0. I’m going to review it over the next few days using GT Metrix.
